It seems that the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) is deceiving everyone about it’s true intentions by refusing to define the important terms in the new legislation.
The term, ‘psychotherapy technique’, you will note, is used throughout the RHPA, the Psychology Act and the Psychotherapy Act, all of which result in putting the entire field of treatment, counseling and spiritual care in the hands of the College.
Remember that psychotherapeutic techniques can only be carried out by specifically authorized professionals… psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, MDs, nurses, social workers and occupational therapists.
Click on the link below to open to the appendix in the Dictionary of Clinical Psychology (first edition, 2013) that lists over 300 ‘psychotherapy approaches’. All of these approaches involve one or more “psychotherapy techniques”.
Read the list carefully because your treatments are sure to be covered by the 312 psychotherapeutic approaches that include pet and play therapy and even Zen therapy – which includes using intuition and meditation!
The APA’s list has been growing rapidly since 2006 when plans for this takeover were seeded and can be updated at any time. The College may also make use of other references materials that list even more ‘psychotherapy’ approaches. Some further examples from the APA’s list are:
• Exercise Therapy (includes exercise for prevention)
• Holistic Education
• Vitamin and Mineral Therapy
• Transcendence Therapy
• Light Therapy
• Dance Therapy
• Art Therapy
• Music Therapy

• “Reflective listening” and “active listening” are examples of commonly used “psychotherapeutic” communication techniques.
• On June 27th, 2014 the Registrar of CRPO personally explained the situation to Canadian Reiki Association (CRA) President Bonnie Smith and CRA Vice President Alice Creighton in an email. Here is an excerpt:
“Please note that the controlled act of psychotherapy is defined in terms of the seriousness of the condition of the person being treated, not in terms of the particular technique used to treat the person.
Unregulated people will be able to provide services, as long as they do not engage in the controlled act, i.e. treat individuals with serious disorders…
The College will not be defining the meaning of “serious disorder” or “seriously impair”…. We will also have the power to take action against unregulated people who… engage in the controlled act, i.e. treat individuals who have serious disorders.”
• Regarding Energy Treatments in particular:
1) Energy work is part of the Spiritual Psychotherapy program offered by Toronto’s Transformational Arts College and regulated by the Province of Ontario.
AREAS OF STUDY
…Somatic and Energetic Approaches – Body and Chakra Psychotherapy
2) The Ontario Society of Psychotherapists advertises training in energy treatments.
Energy Diagnostic & Treatment Methods (EdxTM) … (also known as Advanced Energy Psychology)
3) An Article in IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences) Newsletter – August 2011 discussed the field of Energy Psychology:
Modern psychotherapy’s enfant terrible, Energy Psychology… The term energy psychology describes a new field of innovative interventions that balance, restore, and enhance human functioning by stimulating the human subtle energy system… EP modalities combine intentionality with imaginal exposure and energetic stimulation, energetic balancing, or both.
4) The International Center for Reiki Training uses the term “Psychotherapeutic Reiki” in describing
“…a technique that blends Eastern energy concepts and Western psychological perspectives.”
I saw on the list “hydrotherapy”, “electrotherapy”…”vitamin and mineral therapy”, “ultrasonic irradiation”, “light therapy”, “lobectomy”, “lobotomy”…
For sure the guy who wrote this idiocy is lobotomized, and the only lobe he has is money oriented.
We need people out there to contribute generously asap so that we can not only get this repealed once and for all time, but get protective legislation in place so we don’t have to deal with this sickness every 30 years…
